enSoie meets: Séverine

We meet Séverine in Geneva. She is wearing the Otto shirt and Capri sunglasses.

enSoie: If someone looked at you from afar, what would you want your silhouette to say?
Séverine: She is not trying too hard.

What city or place has influenced the way you dress?
I lived in New York when I was 25. Because the city is so big and liberal, I felt very free to dress however I wanted and experiment with clothes. This open-mindedness has stayed with me to this day. My style can be very casual, and then, all of a sudden, I go crazy. Fashion should always feel fun.

Are you loyal to certain brands or designers?
I couldn’t live without Lemaire, Comme des Garçons, and Junya Watanabe. I will soon be broke because of Phoebe Philo. And I love Abri, an independent Swiss brand with amazing trousers and strong ethical values. I wear their Heart Denim jeans all the time. I am thinking of buying a second pair to preserve the first!

Which fabrics do you love touching or wearing?
At the risk of sounding snobbish, nothing beats really good cashmere. I also love wearing vintage Levi’s. The patina of the denim is incredibly beautiful.

What detail makes a garment feel luxurious to you?
The parts you don’t see, how it’s made on the inside.

What’s your relationship with garment care: washing, repairing, sharing, and gifting?
I am very careful with my clothes because I want them to last. I am a washing-instructions freak. Any doubts about how to wash a silk dress or remove a stain from your favourite wool coat? Call me!
