Mia Sanchez «Schrank»
Mia Sanchez, «Schrank»
24.4.–31.5.2026
Höscheller Room
Curated by Selma Meuli
«Schrank» marks a new chapter in Mia Sanchez’s ongoing series of prints on canvas. Clothing serves as a recurring motif, interwoven with the visual language of branding and advertising. The works explore how fashion shapes social structures and becomes embedded in the routines of everyday life. At the same time, it becomes clear that information is never neutral, but is always embedded in systems of codes and representations, which it can both perpetuate and disrupt.
Codes also take centre stage in the new, as yet untitled series of works. Here, Mia Sanchez converts visual motifs from her archive, as well as newly added subjects, into bitmaps – a two-dimensional digital format in which images are organised as a grid of individual pixels – and transfers them onto paper using digital printing techniques. This creates a system of order in which the image takes shape through the interplay of information and its omission, and in turn generates new information. In a similar way, the ‘cupboard’ («Schrank») can also be read as such a system of arrangement, in which the visible and the hidden, presence and emptiness, enter into a relationship with one another.
